About the Fisher & Paykel Social Kitchen
The Story behind “The Social Kitchen”
The culture of F&P is one of open innovation that allows people to work collaboratively to find insights and ideas that connect with our customers. When we find an idea we love, we run with it and make it work, no matter how long it takes. One idea that showed this is practice was “Our Kitchen” which then led to “The Social Kitchen”. http://ourkitchen.fisherpaykel.com/
“Our Kitchen” was born from the passion for food, from a group of friends at the Fisher & Paykel Dunedin office. The team of designs and engineers needed to test the new ovens are so between them started to bring in recipes to cook for each other. They’d bring them in on scraps of paper, photocopies of their Mum’s handwritten cook book, and pages from really old, but loved food magazines.
What started out as a clinical test study, soon became a social event, where the engineers and designers started to cook and share ideas with each other over lunch. Not only did this lead into great insights which helped us build a truly intuitive and easy to use oven, but it also led into the development of “Our Kitchen” which is a food blog and recipe portal that we share on our website with our customers and consumers. There was a missing piece though….
The regular lunches that started to develop, showed us that people loved getting together over food. This Social-Food interaction led to great some amazing ideas and gave all those involved a wonderful feeling.
